The Machine That Never Stops: How Macromix Concrete Relies on Hitachi Everyday

At a ready-mix concrete plant, there is no room for downtime. Every delay ripples through the operation, and ultimately, to the client waiting on a job site. That is why the equipment at the center of the process has to be built to perform, day in and day out, without fail. For Macromix Concrete, that machine is the Hitachi wheel loader.
A Company Built to Serve Puerto Rico
Founded in 1999, Macromix Concrete was built on a simple but powerful mission: contribute to the development of Puerto Rico by delivering quality concrete and exceptional service to every client, on every project.
"We all feel responsible for contributing something to Puerto Rico," says Juan Somosa López, President of Macromix Concrete. "We want to create direct and indirect jobs."
The scope of their work reflects that ambition. Macromix serves clients across the full spectrum of construction, from a homeowner pouring a small backyard slab to contractors building hospitals, highways, and high-rise buildings.
"For us, every project is a source of pride," Somosa López says. "From a small house to a 100-story building."
A Relationship Rooted in Construction History
The connection between Macromix and Puerto Rico Wire Group did not begin with a sales call. It began on construction sites, through the projects of Juan's father, long before Macromix was even founded. When the company was established, that existing relationship and mutual trust carried forward naturally.
A year and a half ago, that trust led to a significant decision: Macromix purchased its first Hitachi wheel loader, the very first Hitachi unit to arrive in Puerto Rico under PRWG's new representation of the line.
The results have spoken for themselves.
The Wheel Loader at the Heart of the Plant
In a concrete production facility, the wheel loader is not just another piece of equipment. It is the machine the entire operation depends on.
"The Hitachi loader is practically the main machine at a concrete plant," explains Somosa López. "Without the loader, no concrete goes out the door."
That kind of critical role demands a machine that can handle relentless, continuous use, and the Hitachi has delivered exactly that.
"It is a machine that truly holds up. It runs all day, loading the plant, with absolutely no issues," he says. "We have had it running non-stop for 8 months. A product that serves our clients without placing additional demands on our service department, that is what gives us complete confidence in Hitachi."
One of the standout benefits Macromix has experienced is fuel efficiency. The Hitachi loader has delivered a significant reduction in diesel consumption, a meaningful operational advantage for a plant running equipment continuously throughout the day.
See the Partnership in Action
Hear from Juan Somosa López, President of Macromix Concrete, and Larry Cruz, COO of Puerto Rico Wire Group, as they discuss how Hitachi equipment, responsive service, and a trusted partnership keep one of Puerto Rico's leading ready-mix producers running every day:
Looking Ahead: A Fleet Built on Confidence
Eight months in, Macromix is already planning for more. A second Hitachi unit is already on its way. And Somosa López has a longer-term vision that reflects just how much confidence he has in the equipment and the partnership behind it.
"In 5 to 10 years, I would like to have around 10 Hitachi loaders, one for each plant."
That kind of commitment does not come from a product brochure. It comes from eight months of real operational experience, zero unexpected failures, and a distributor that picks up the phone.
"Behind every equipment purchase, there has to be a person you can trust who will stand behind the service," Somosa López says. "That person is Puerto Rico Wire Group."
